I watch 80s commercials every now and then to unwind and I just saw an ad for one of the first Turbo Nintendo controllers. Extra buttons, presumably extra powers and abilities, and I don't recall ever having one. But I always wondered if they actually DID anything. Realistically, if the game is designed to work with the controller that came with the game, what's the point of the extra buttons? If the game NEEDED extra buttons, isn't it a rip-off if you can't beat it with the controller that came with the system? And isn't the software a limitation, can you really run "turbo" if the game runs at a set speed? Can you really have a 360 degree control pad if the game only lets you move in four directions anyway?

Did anyone have these? Did they work? Is there actual quantitative proof of their advantage?
